Welcome to Sachem Model United Nations!

Sachem Model United Nations is one of the most prestigious clubs one can join in the Sachem School District. Having won various local and National awards, the club has seen success for over 10 years and hopes to continue the momentum this year. In Model United Nations, one can educate themselves on the current political state of the world while gaining various essential public speaking, problem-solving, and debate skills through a simulation of the United Nations and it's parliamentary procedure.
This year, the club is conjoined between Sachem North and Sachem East, with meetings held simultaneously at both schools.
Meetings take place every MUNday, check the google classroom for the room!

Sachem Model UN News and Directives!

First ever Sachem Mock MUNC!

WOW… the first ever Model-MUNC hosted by Sachem was a HUGE success. Thank you so much to our wonderful chairs Tricia Block and Madyn Gassner, as well as Crisis/Resolution managers Ryan Medina and John O'Brien! And of course, thank you to all the amazing delegates who came from 8-12 on a Saturday, stepping out of their comfort zones and into the word of MUN; hopefully this event showed you just how much fun Model UN is, and we’ll be seeing more of you in the future! Finally, congratulations to Jake Leitgeb as France for winning best delegate; Logan Schumaker as Germany, and Aarav Seghal as Sweden for winning outstanding delegate; and Jack Esposito as China, and Ananya Sood as Japan for winning Honorable Delegate!

Current Directive

At our most recent meeting, we discussed the Mock Conferance held recently as well as the possibility of the holding another one, but this time at Sachem North. On the other hand, we also proposed a need for fundraising ideas and Tree designs for FOTAL. Any club members with ideas are encouraged to contact officers so that they can work with you!

Meeting of  11/18/24

WE. ARE. BACK.

Sachem Model UN Is BACK!!! After repeated issues related to district budget issues, the skills of our future delegates has paid off as they have managed to have the club re-instated. This was done through the use of a petition with hundreds of signatures, as well as directly addressing the board of education in a professional, eloquent manner. We are so thankful to all of those who voiced support for our clubs re-instatement, and we can't wait to have a great year with all of you!

Common Concerns

Why Model UN?

Not only is Model UN an amazing extra curricular for Universities, but it allows for personal and professional development through an environment that no other club can offer. Simultaneously, it serves as a safe space for the future leaders of the world to be themselves and make lasting friendships.

The Procedure is too confusing…

As a very wise man once said, you learn by doing. The parliamentary procedure enforced by Model UN may start out as daunting, but as you continue to attend meetings and practice the procedural elements, it will all clear up. If you're still having trouble after an extended period of time, try searching up YouTube tutorials/videos, and NEVER feel afraid to ask an officer for assistance; Model UN is for everyone.

What are Conferences and how do I attend?

Conferences are the principal events of the Model UN program. They typically take place from the morning to the nighttime—for example from 8AM-8PM—with some at the National scale even lasting multiple days. At conferences, you are assigned a country, person, delegation, or state depending on your committee. Once assigned a role, you are obligated to do research regarding your role's opinion on the issue given in a backround guide that will be provided to you. Once actually at the conference, you debate with other delegates assigned other roles regarding resolutions to the problem. In doing this, you will create, write, and pass/fail resolutions that could potentially solve the problem. This year, Sachem Model UN will be attending 2 Conferances as a club: ConnetMUNQ and StonyBrookMUNC; Sign-ups will be posted as the dates near. If you wish to attend more conferances, we highly encouraged the attendance of conferances as individual delegates!

“Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of leading and teaching this club, witnessing firsthand how Model UN transforms students into confident leaders and articulate speakers. We are proud of our club's extensive legacy, in earning countless delegate awards over the decades, and of our recent achievement of two team awards at the National Model United Nations Conference. Since 2011, we have hosted MUN conferences at Sachem North, engaging students from across Long Island. [Continuing] Model UN allows Sachem the continuity of investing in a lasting legacy of skilled, global citizens.”
